Art Museum Cottbus Power Station (Brandenburgisches Landesmuseum für moderne Kunst)

The Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art (BLMK) is home to the largest collection of art from the GDR and subsequent artistic traditions. The museum, with its two locations in Cottbus and Frankfurt (Oder), does not see its task solely in preserving the works. Its intention is to place the works in an international context and make them legible in new contexts. Moreover, the BLMK sees its work as a contribution to the discussion on the concept and understanding of modernism. The BLMK is located in the former diesel power station in Cottbus. Through events and educational programmes, the museum is a lively institution with local roots, yet it is also well-received beyond the region.
